Moderator: Michael Fekete, Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt LLP
In December 2010, the Federal government enacted Bill C-28: An Act to promote the efficiency and adaptability of the Canadian economy by regulating certain activities that discourage reliance on electronic means of carrying out commercial activities, and to amend the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Act, the Competition Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and the Telecommunications Act.
This has become known as Canada’s anti-spam legislation (CASL).
While the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has recently finalized its draft regulations under CASL, Industry Canada is working towards another release date for its draft regulations.
Andy Kaplan-Myrth will be delivering prepared remarks on the status of CASL and Industry Canada’s regulations. He will then answer questions received from in-person program attendees as well as selected questions received by email.
Andy Kaplan-Myrth is a Policy Advisor in the Electronic Commerce Branch at Industry Canada and a member of the team that developed and is implementing Canada's anti-spam legislation. Before joining Industry Canada, Andy was called to the Ontario Bar in 2005 and managed the Law & Technology Program at the University of Ottawa until 2009.
If you have a question that you would like to ask Andy Kaplan-Myrth at this program, please forward it to asprague@millerthomson.com. Selected questions will be raised during the program by the moderator.
